5 Thoughts After A Day of Therapy

When we stop to notice our thoughts and feelings in the present moment, we quickly realize that they come and go by themselves

5 thoughts after a day of therapy:

1. Pain is not wrong. Often times as humans, we try to avoid pain for fear of suffering endlessly - that by truly diving into pain we, in fact, may never return. However, pain is not wrong. The path to true healing is through pain, without resistance, and with tenderness toward our inner experience.

2. The ability to observe our desires rather than acting on them actually opens the doors to freedom to choose how you want to live. Similarly to pain, when we are able to simply observe our deepest longings, desires, and lusts we are able to cognizantly make decisions based on our personal value system. We no longer are bound by the rules we were taught from others. We can, in faith, trust that we are living in accordance with our true selves.

3. Thoughts and feelings come and go. When we stop to notice our thoughts and feelings in the present moment, we quickly realize that they come and go by themselves. There is no “self” who owns them.

4. One of the most basic forms of love is attention. Attention to those around us. Attention to our inner experience. Attention to life. In an attentive state, we are graced by life and the beauty of imperfection by living in an open and engaged state of mind.

5. Treating ourselves tenderly is revolutionary in the healing process. Once we are able to encompass the process of slowing down, healing comes through offering tenderness and sweetness to ourselves. These moments of true acceptance is integral in undoing a lifetime of hurtful messages.
